A chat with Daniel Hurtado, Academic Manager

With over 20 years of experience in leading and managing community and socioeconomic development initiatives across the U.S. and Malaysia, Daniel Hurtado brings a wealth of expertise to the field of education.

His unexpected journey into education began in high school when his family hosted Japanese exchange students. During this time, he discovered a passion for helping students improve their English skills and adjust to life in a new country. While attending university in California, Daniel formed close connections with Malaysian students and visited Malaysia several times. What captivated him most was Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity—a nation where multiple cultures are celebrated and preserved with genuine pride. These formative experiences, combined with his background in community development, naturally paved the way for his career in education.

All these have deeply influenced Daniel’s approach to education, enabling him to foster a unique and thriving learning environment for both students and staff in Malaysia’s multicultural society. In this article, read more about what brought Daniel from the USA to Malaysia, and his vision for the students, staff, and the future of ELC Malaysia.
